Saint Clair
Vicar's Choice
Grüner Veltliner

Luscious and textural with peach and nectarine laced with white pepper.

Winemaker:

Matt Thomson and Hamish Clark

Colour:

Pale gold

Aroma:

Delicate aromas of peach, citrus peel and almond blossom with nuances of spicy cardamom.

Palate:

A silky palate with nectarine and grapefruit flavours and a hint of white pepper on the finish. Complex and textural, this wine has fresh acidity and a long finish.

Ageing potential:

Ready for consumption upon release the complexity and texture of this wine will increasingly reward over the next four years.

Winemaking:

The fruit was selected from vineyards in the Wairau and Omaka valleys. The grapes were hand-picked and whole bunch pressed with two press cuts to minimise harsh phenolics. The majority of the juice was fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures to retain varietal character. A small portion was fermented in barrel at warmer temperatures to add complexity and texture. Free run components were blended with light pressings following fermentation and the wine was carefully finished and prepared for bottling.

Wine Analysis:

Alcohol: 13.00% v/v, Titratable Acidity: 5.60 g/litre, Residual Sugar: 3.60g/l, pH: 3.24.

Food match:

Grüner Veltliner is an excellent ‘food wine’, which complements most types of food. Saint Clair love to pair this wine with fish curries or rich cheese.
