"Clair Family Estate now sits alongside Villa Maria as one of New Zealand’s most awarded wineries. And it’s nice to know it’s still New Zealand family-owned."

Malbec

Saint Clair Family Estates Malbec varietal is sourced from a single vineyard in the highly regarded Gimblett Gravels winegrowing district within the Hawke's Bay region. The winemakers comment that it is a wine that is always a pleasure to make.

Malbec is typically a very generous variety, always strongly coloured, highly perfumed and concentrated.

The Saint Clair Pioneer Block 17 Plateau Malbec is made in a fruit driven style which shows the natural perfume and intensity this variety can achieve. The single Gimblett Gravels vineyard consistently produces highly perfumed fruit with powerful aromas and a very deep colour. Aged in a mix of new and old French oak for approximately 12months which concentrates the perfume and fruit aromas and also softens the tannin levels into a dense velvet like structure.

The Saint Clair Premium Malbec is also taken from the Gimblett Gravels vineyard and shows more rich dark ripe berry notes and a dark chocolate like structure. Aged in older French oak which aids in the concentration of some of the fruit aromas and develop the structure.

I's no secret that Saint Clair Family Estates Malbec is a great companion of chocolate base deserts and cakes.
