The single vineyard ‘Pioneer Block’ wines of Saint Clair require separate handling, the winery using 250 small tanks to manage this. The amount of detail for winemakers Matt Thomson and Hamish Clark and their team is considerable, but the result is a fascinating range of wines that express their origin and site. In essence Saint Clair is bottling ‘terroir’ for keen wine enthusiasts to ponder and enjoy. The quality per se of the ‘Pioneer Block’ wines has been extremely high as well, reflecting the identification of superior as well as individual vineyards by Saint Clair’s owner Neal Ibbotson.

Godfrey's Creek Reserve Gewurztraminer 2008

A delicious medium-bodied Gewurztraminer with a soft round silky texture on the palate.

Matt Thomson

Pale gold

Intense aromas on the nose of crushed rose petals, lychees and Turkish delight.

The wine is medium-bodied and has a soft round silky texture on the palate. Elegant and luscious, the aromas on the nose are evident on the palate showing more lychees and Turkish delight.

Ageing potential:

Perfect for drinking immediately, this Gewurztraminer will continue to reward for the next three to four years.

After harvest the grapes were pressed as quickly as possible with the minimum of skin contact. Settled clear juice was fermented with an aromatic yeast to enhance the varietal expression of the resultant wine.

Sourced from the Godfrey’s Creek Vineyard in the Brancott Valley this low cropping, immaculately tended vineyard produces fruit with intense varietal aromatic expression. The grapes were picked in the coolest part of the day at the peak of flavour development.

Alcohol: 13% v/v, Titratable Acidity: 4.4g/litre, Residual Sugar: 24g/litre, pH: 3.77.

Food match:

Enjoy with lightly spiced Asian cuisine, duck or roast pork.
