Pioneer Block 10 Twin Hills Chardonnay 2007

Made from Saint Clair’s own Omaka Valley Vineyard between
Twin Hills. With tropical aromas, hints of peach, figs, and a touch of spice, this is an elegant, richly fruit driven style.

Terroir:

Soils: The soil is clay based, and is quite compact.

Topography: Flat within a small open valley

Climate: A warm site, with warmer days and cooler nights than average in Marlborough.

Regional Characteristics & contribution to Uniqueness of Flavours:

This vineyard has clay soils and significant diurnal temperature changes, both contributing to the rich intensity of flavours in this wine.

Viticulture:

The fruit was sourced from one of Saint Clair’s own vineyard on the clay based soils in the Omaka valley. The fruit is 100 per cent Clone 95 Chardonnay, a clone that originates in Burgundy. The fruit was carefully monitored during ripening and hand harvested at maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.

Pale gold

Aroma:

Lifted aromas of tropical flavours and notes of peach and fig with a touch of spice.

Palate:

Elegant and a richly fruit driven style with tropical fruit flavours, a biscuity note from ageing in French oak, an underlying mineral character and an alluring finish.

Cellaring:

Although drinking well now, this wine will improve with age. May be enjoyed for up to five years from vintage date.

Analysis:

Alcohol: 14.0% v/v, Titratable Acidity: 6.5g/litre, pH: 3.35.

Food Match:

This Pioneer Block Chardonnay makes an ideal match to seafood pasta or risotto dishes.
