WINEMAKER: Matt Thomson

BLOCK: 4

Region:

Ure Valley, 40 km south of Blenheim.

Terroir:

Soils: Very high pH and limestone soils.

Topography: Flat

Climate: The valley has a unique microclimate and is very warm with the number of degree growing days equivalent to if not higher than Blenheim in most years.

Vine Age: Six growing seasons.

Regional Characteristics & contribution to Uniqueness of Flavours:

The limestone soils provide distinct Sauvignon Blanc flavours of chalk-like mineral intensity.

Viticulture:

The fruit for this batch was sourced from the Ure Valley, famous for the Ure River Chasm, 40 kilometres south of Blenheim. The block was machine harvested at a point when it had reached full physiological ripeness and maximum flavour maturity.

Colour:

Pale straw with green hues.

Aroma:

Powerful aromas of passion fruit and grapefruit and peach combined with an underlying mineral chalk and crushed herb note.

Palate:

This wine has a crisp, elegant and refreshing palate with strong flavors of passionfruit and the cleansing acidity of grapefruit. The palate is intensely concentrated with a mouth-filling and well-balanced palate and a lingering finish.

Cellaring:

This wine is drinking beautifully now and may also be enjoyed over the next one to two years.

Analysis:

Alcohol: 13.5% v/v, Titratable Acidity: 7.9g/litre, Residual Sugar: 2.95g/litre, pH: 3.49.

A perfect match with seafood such oysters, prawns or scallops. Also ideal with vegetarian cuisine, especially those dishes with feta cheese.
