Pioneer Block 3 '43' Degrees Sauvignon Blanc 2006

WINEMAKER: Matt Thomson

BLOCK:

A distinctively Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with full passion fruit and gooseberry finish.

Terroir:

Viticulture:

The fruit for this wine was sourced from a single vineyard on the fertile, free draining soils of Marlborough's Lower Wairau area. The grapes were havested at maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.

Winemaking:

Directly after harvesting the grapes were transported to the winery with haste and pressed off immediately to minimise skin contact and juice deterioration. After settling, the juice from each batch was fermented using selected yeast in 100% stainless steel at cool temperatures to retain fruit flavour and freshness. This wine was selected specifically as a Pioneer Block due to its flavour intensity and uniqueness. After fermentation the wine was stabilised and carefully prepared for bottling.

Colour:

Pale Straw

Aroma:

Intensely pungent aromas of passion fruit and gooseberry, with intense lifted notes of aromatic crushed fresh herbs and underlying minerality.

Palate:

This Sauvignon Blanc is distinctively Marlborough and has a fresh vibrant palate of passion fruit and gooseberry. The wine has a wonderfully full and rich palate with striking minerality leading to a long, lasting finish.

Cellaring:

Drinking beautifully now, this wine will be a best enjoyed over the next 1 to 3 years.

Analysis:

Alcohol: 13.5%, Titratable Acidity: 8.4g/litre, Residual Sugar: 4.24g/litre, pH: 3.47.

Food Match:

Perfect on its own or matched with seafood, vegetarian quiche and fresh green seasonal salad with feta cheese, walnuts and olives.
