Pioneer Block 2 Swamp Block Sauvignon Blanc 2006

WINEMAKER: Matt Thomson

BLOCK:

A rich Sauvignon Blanc with strong concentration of passion fruit, black currant and underlying mineral and nettley notes.

Terroir:

Viticulture:

The fruit for this wine was sourced from a single vineyard in the Lower Wairau area. The fruit was carefully monitored during ripening and machine harvested at a time when it had reached maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.

Winemaking:

Directly after harvesting the grapes were transported to the winery with haste and pressed off immediately to minimise skin contact and juice deterioration. After settling, the juice from each batch was fermented using a variety of selected yeast in 100% stainless steel at cool temperatures to retain fruit flavour. This batch was chosen specifically as a Pioneer Block owing to its intensity of flavour. After ferment, the wine was stabilised and carefully prepared for bottling.

Colour:

Pale Straw

Aroma:

Intensely lifted notes of black currant and nettles, and pungent tropical aromas of passion fruit and guava.

Palate:

This intense and rich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has incredible concentration of flavours showing passion fruit and black currant with underlying mineral and nettley notes on a palate that just lasts and lasts.

Cellaring:

This wine is drinking beautifully now, and will be best enjoyed over the next one to two years.

Analysis:

Alcohol: 13% v/v, Titratable Acidity: 8.9g/litre, Residual Sugar: 3.63g/litre, pH: 3.34.

Food Match:

This wine is an ideal match with pan-fried scallops and fresh asparagus
