2005 VINTAGE

Pioneer Block 3 43 Degrees Sauvignon Blanc 2005

WINEMAKER: Matt Thomson

BLOCK:

This wine has a vibrant palate of passion fruit, gooseberry and aromatic fresh herbs.

Terroir:

Viticulture:

The fruit for this wine was sourced from two different vineyards within Marlborough. Both blocks were harvested at a time when they had reached maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.

Winemaking:

Directly after harvesting, the grapes were transported to the winery with haste and pressed off immediately to minimize skin contact and juice deterioration. After settling, the juice from each batch was fermented using selected yeast in 100 per cent stainless steel at cool temperatures to retain fruit flavour and freshness. This wine was selected for a Pioneer Block wine due to its intense flavours. After fermentation the wine was stabilsed and carefully prepared for bottling.

Colour:

Pale straw.

Aroma:

Intensely pungent aromas of passion fruit and gooseberry with underlying herbaceous notes.

Palate:

This Sauvignon Blanc is distinctively Marlborough and has a vibrant palate of passion fruit, gooseberry and aromatic fresh herbs. The wine has a wonderfully full and rich palate and a long lasting finish.

Cellaring:

Drinking beautifully now this wine will be at best enjoyed over the next one to two years.

Analysis:

This wine is an ideal match with fresh seafood, poultry dishes or vegetarian cuisine.
