Pioneer Block 2 Swamp Block Sauvignon Blanc 2005

WINEMAKER: Matt Thomson

BLOCK:

Terroir:

Viticulture:

The fruit from this wine was sourced from a single vineyard in the lower Wairau valley. This is also a site that experiences slightly cooler nights than other areas. The fruit was carefully monitored during ripening and machine harvested at a time when it had reached maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.

Winemaking:

Directly after harvesting the grapes were transported to the winery with haste and pressed off immediately to minimize skin contact and juice deterioration. After settling the juice was fermented using a variety of selected yeast in 100 per cent stainless steel at cool temperatures to retain fruit flavour. This batch was selected for a Pioneer Block wine due to its intense flavours. After ferment the wine was stabilised and carefully prepared for bottling.
