Pioneer Block 1 Foundation Sauvignon Blanc 2005

WINEMAKER: Matt Thomson

This wine has powerful passion fruit and blackcurrent with an underlying mineral note, and subtle undertones of honeysuckle.

The fruit from this wine was sourced from a single vineyard in the lower Wairau Valley. This is also a site that experiences slightly cooler nights than other areas. The fruit was carefully monitored during ripening, and harvested in the cool of the evening when it had reached maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.

On arrival at the winery the fruit was pressed off as quickly as possible to minimize skin contact and juice deterioration. After settling, the juice was fermented using selected yeast in 100 per cent stainless steel at cool temperatures to retain fruit flavour and freshness. This batch was selected for a Pioneer Block wine due to its unique flavour and complexity. After fermentation the wine was carefully prepared for bottling.

Pale straw.
