Estate-grown and fermented and lees-aged for 10 months in American oak casks (50% new), this is an upfront chardonnay style, weighty and creamy-textured, with strong, ripe, citrusy and peachy flavours, well seasoned with sweet oak, and a smooth finish.

Bright straw-yellow colour with slight lemon-green hues. This has a very full, solid and densely packed nose with a complex amalgam of ripe citrus fruits, creamy butter MLF and barrel-ferment aromas, interwoven with mealy, nutty notes and toasty oak. Full-bodied, rich and powerful, waves of ripe citrus fruits flow with mealy, nutty flavours, smoky, toasty oak and butter notes, filling the palate. There is a firm and concentrated core, marked by some noticeable alcoholic heat. A little textural grip provides a grainy line which is balanced by an attractive creaminess from the MLF and barrel-fermention. The acidity is discreet, contributing to the fulsome mouthfeel. The wine features a very long, sustained and rich, toasty finish. This is a bold, concentrated and powerful Chardonnay with creamy, citrus and buttery flavours and plenty of toasty oak. Serve with roast pork and grilled seafood and poultry over the next 5-6 years. Clone 95 and Mendoza fruit from the company’s ‘Omaka’ vineyard, hand-picked and WBP, fully barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc. and aged 10 months in American oak barrels, 50% new, the wine undergoing MLF and batonnage. 18.5+/20 Sep 2012
