Saint Clair is a substantial family-owned vineyard in Marlborough noted for its multitude of single-vineyard sauvignon blancs, which regularly win top show awards. This is its entry-level pinot noir and it’s terrific value for the money. Medium-light red-purple, with deliciously fragrant strawberry and raspberry aromas with a hint of jamminess from some ultra-ripe bunches. It’s a lighter-weighted, elegant, finely balanced and textured pinot that has good intensity and long, persistent flavour. Drink now to about five years; 14% alcohol 92/100 Food Roast turkey with cranberry sauce; Peking duck roll-ups; veal parmigiana or vitello tonnato; soft, white-mould cheeses such as brie.
