“This recent success clearly recognises the ability of Saint Clair’s winemaking team, led my Mat Thomson and Hamish Clark, to produce quality wines of world-class excellence – a remarkable achievement for the family-owned Marlborough winery.”
So far, the 2011s show plenty of promise and some pretty terrific wines and values. At the top of the list, not surprisingly, is Saint Clair. Saint Clair winemaker Matt Thomson is passionate about Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, and he's exploring the region in depth with the Pioneer Block series, which focuses on select parcels and vineyard sites. I like those wines very much but the reserve bottling is truly the standout - aromatic and elegant, and wonderfully delicious.

"The Vicar's Choice Chardonnay is fresh with bright stone and citrus fruit, just a tickle of creaminess from oak and malolactic fermentation, and a nice intensity on the aftertaste."
Charmian Smith, Otago Daily Times, 4 July 2007
"This is an easy drinking Chardonnay with ripe peach and pineapple flavours with creamy complexity and a whisper of oak. The palate is juicy and fruity with a lovely smooth texture. Just delicious."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2007
"It is peachy and tropical with good acidity and freshness. A good chardonnay for those who don't like them too oaky and overblown, and it went down a treat with chicken and pickled ginger pie."
Manawatu Standard, 5 May 2007
