So far, the 2011s show plenty of promise and some pretty terrific wines and values. At the top of the list, not surprisingly, is Saint Clair. Saint Clair winemaker Matt Thomson is passionate about Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, and he's exploring the region in depth with the Pioneer Block series, which focuses on select parcels and vineyard sites. I like those wines very much but the reserve bottling is truly the standout - aromatic and elegant, and wonderfully delicious.

"Oak and spice were noted on the noise, and it was full and rich in the mouth, very malolactic, with stonefruit, oak and nutty characters - balanced and strong."
Capital Times, 18 April 2007

"It's so delicious now but will it last? One of our good customers recently brought in the 1992 vintage of this label for me to try and the wine was in very fine form. So this should carry on drinking magnificently for a while yet."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2007

"There's perfumed creamy oak and stonefruit on the nose and smoky, savoury, spicy oak in the rich, powerful, creamy textured palate with grilled stonefruit, hints of citrus, caramel and a very long rounded finish."
