So far, the 2011s show plenty of promise and some pretty terrific wines and values. At the top of the list, not surprisingly, is Saint Clair. Saint Clair winemaker Matt Thomson is passionate about Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, and he's exploring the region in depth with the Pioneer Block series, which focuses on select parcels and vineyard sites. I like those wines very much but the reserve bottling is truly the standout - aromatic and elegant, and wonderfully delicious.

"Here's another attractive wine from a company with an enviable reputation for producing impeccable white wines. Those who love creamy, nutty, oaky flavours in their chardonnay will relish this mouthfilling wine with hints of citrus and a long, crisp finish."
Charmian Smith, Otago Daily Times, 24 January 2007

"Saint Clair 05 Chardonnay pushes all the right buttons. It has a dash of acid tingle, a pleasing dash of sweet caramel tempered by some crisp apple flavour, and a tempting fruity sweetness right on the finish."
Deborah Walton & Peter Morice, Marlborough Express, 17 May 2007

“A lovely wine with wafts of grapefruit and honeysuckle on the nose. A good mouth feel with flavours of white peach, citrus, fig and butterstotch focused with acidity”.
Roger Ewer, Greymouth Star, 4 October 2006

“Creamy peach and light toasty aromas with ripe stonefruit and friendly acidity on the palate. There’s a touch of phenolic pick-up on the finish but all-in-all a pretty pleasant chardonnay”.
Yvonne Dudman, Hawkes Bay Today, 7 October 2006
