So far, the 2011s show plenty of promise and some pretty terrific wines and values. At the top of the list, not surprisingly, is Saint Clair. Saint Clair winemaker Matt Thomson is passionate about Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, and he's exploring the region in depth with the Pioneer Block series, which focuses on select parcels and vineyard sites. I like those wines very much but the reserve bottling is truly the standout - aromatic and elegant, and wonderfully delicious.

Marlborough Riesling 2005
- Bronze: Royal Easter Show Wine Awards 2006
- Bronze: New World Wine Awards 2006
“Nicely textured and well fruit Riesling, fresh and youthful with a little honey and lime to ensure it has something to grow on.”
Winestate Magazine, May/June 2006
“...Has oodles of citrus bursting through on the nose, followered by grapefruit, lime and mandarin in a lovely finish. There’s enough concentrated fruit, spirtzy minerality and lingering flavours to entice even the most hardened Riesling phobe. Drink with grilled prawns coated in sweet chilli and coriander.” 4 stars.
Yvonne Dudman, Hawkes Bay Today, 24 June 2006
“Is attactive with fragrant hints of honey, lime and passionfruit, backed by suggestions of mineral and nutty complexity, and finishing with an intense, tingly, enlivening aftertaste.”
Charmian Smith, Otago Daily Times, 28 June 2006
"The aroma is fruity with a touch of mandarin and apricot and the immediate impression is of a bright, lively wine. Its claim to classic Marlborough character on the palate is well founded with distinctive citrus tastes that reinforce the well-weighted fruit acitidy."
