Victory in the NZ International Wine Show and Tri Nations 21 September 2009
The awards evening of the 2009 New Zealand International Wine Show held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Saturday 19th September announced trophy success for Saint Clair Family Estate. The Saint Clair Pioneer Block 1 Foundation Block Sauvignon Blanc 2009 was awarded Eurowine Champion Sauvignon Blanc trophy being singled out by the judges as the ‘Best of the Best’.
Recognised as the largest wine competition held nationally the New Zealand International Wine Show caters for entrants around the globe receiving over 2000 wines this year. A team of experienced judges lead by Bob Campbell MW tasted wines over a course of three days reaching a conclusion of 156 gold medals, 317 silver medals and 791 bronze.
Traditionally internationally recognised for pristine quality Sauvignon Blanc, Saint Clair Family Estate continued to cement this reputation receiving a third of the Sauvignon Blanc medals awarded and completely dominating this section of the competition. As many other international wine shows are doing, the New Zealand International Wine Show acknowledged that Saint Clair Family Estate excel outside of Sauvignon Blanc and awarded three further gold medals to the classic Chardonnay varietal.
The following wines from Saint Clair Family Estate achieved the highly regarded gold medal status;
Saint Clair Pioneer Block 19 Bird Block Sauvignon Blanc 2009,
Saint Clair Pioneer Block 3 43 Degrees Sauvignon Blanc 2009,
Saint Clair Pioneer Block 18 Snap Block Sauvignon Blanc 2009,
Saint Clair Pioneer Block 1 Foundation Block Sauvignon Blanc 2009,
Saint Clair Pioneer Block 2 Swamp Block Sauvignon Blanc 2009,
Saint Clair Omaka Reserve Chardonnay 2007,
Saint Clair Pioneer Block 4 Sawcut Chardonnay 2007,
Saint Clair Pioneer Block 10 Twin Hills Chardonnay 2007.
This followed an outstanding victory at the Tri-Nations Wine Awards judged mid August in Sydney. This show is unique in its selection process as wines are only able to participate once invited to attend. Saint Clair Family Estate was invited for both the Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay varietals.
Trophy winners were announced at the Four Seasons Hotel on Friday 11 September acknowledging New Zealand as country of the show receiving a grand total of seven trophies – one of which was awarded to Saint Clair Family Estate Pioneer Block 18 Snap Block Sauvignon Blanc 2008.
Neal Ibbotson, Managing director of Saint Clair Family Estate comments “Through our unique quality assessment system we have identified superior vineyard sites throughout Marlborough that produce superior wines across a range of varietals. This has attributed to Saint Clair Family Estate being internationally recognised across a range of varietals and price points”.
The results further acknowledge Saint Clair Family Estate as a Marlborough wine company consistently producing world class wines of excellence.
