Global Recognition for Family Winery 14 January 2008
Saint Clair Earns Its Wings
A New Zealand family-owned and operated winery has been handpicked from around the world to be served on Business Class (known as Saga Class) on the international airline, Icelandair.
Saint Clair Vicar’s Choice Sauvignon Blanc 2007 is one of the four wines selected, (two white wines and two red wines) from across the globe. This wine also received five stars and was a Top Ten wine in Cuisine magazine’s annual New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc tasting – January 2008 issue.
Over a space of months, Icelandair, who currently serve 24 gateways in North America and Europe, undertook a thorough blind tasting process, to guarantee it is offering top quality wines to its passengers. Icelandair intended to release the results in November 2007, however due to its commitment to find the finest wines, and the long tasting process this entailed, results have only been announced this week.
Neal Ibbotson, Saint Clair’s managing director Neal Ibbotson says, “We are extremely proud of this achievement. Icelandair undertook such a rigorous testing process, and we are delighted to have come out on top, through offering a quality product.”
The Saint Clair Vicar’s Choice Sauvignon Blanc 2007 is not flying solo and Air New Zealand will also offer this same wine as part of their in-flight service.
And if this was not enough to welcome in 2008, Saint Clair has also won three gold medals at the Wrest Point Royal Hobart Wine Show 2007. The gold medal- winning wines are:
• 2007 Saint Clair Marlborough Riesling
• 2007 Saint Clair Pioneer Block 3 43 Degrees Sauvignon Blanc
• 2007 Pioneer Block 6 Oh! Block Sauvignon Blanc
Neal Ibbotson says, “We’ve been very lucky to have a great start to 2008, and with this year’s vintage looking like it is going to be one out of the box, we hope to be able to lift the quality bar a further notch this year.”
Saint Clair Estate Wines began in 1994 and has received a multitude of prestigious awards and trophies from around the world.
