Saint Clair Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2007 gets the people’s vote! 03 November 2007
At the annual Christchurch Casino First Taste Awards. Saint Clair Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2007 was named ‘Peoples Choice’ and voted favorite wine of the show.
Each year the Christchurch Casino Awards recognise the finest Sauvignon Blanc wines made from South Island grown grapes from the latest vintage. Winners were announced at gala dinner held at Christchurch Casino’s Grand Café on 1 November 2007.
The public vote was hotly contested with around 1700 people tasting and judging wines entered in this year’s competition, a big increase from last year.
The panel of judges, in line with international standards, also awarded seven wines with gold medals. Saint Clair was awarded one of these gold medals for their Pioneer Block 11 Cell Block Sauvignon Blanc 2007.
To maintain the awards premium positioning in the South Island, this year’s finalists were again limited to 50 following a blind tasting of all entries by Chief Judge, Terry Copeland.
Copeland says “The wines just keep getting better and better. Last year the overall standard of the wine was amazing and this year was no different. Limiting the number of entrants to 50 meant that only the best wines made it through to the competition stage.”
Saint Clair is New Zealand’s most prolific winner of Sauvignon Blanc awards with no less than 39 trophies and 97gold medals awarded to Saint Clair Sauvignon Blanc wines at local and international wine shows since 2001.
