007 Vintage: License to Enjoy

11 July 2007

Saint Clair Estate Wines, recognised as one of New Zealand’s top Sauvignon Blanc producers, is preparing to release its 2007 vintage.

There are high expectations that the 2007 harvest will follow in the footsteps of its award-winning predecessors.

Although Saint Clair has already won more trophies for its Sauvignon Blanc wines than any other New Zealand wine company, securing a whopping 37 local and international trophies since 2001, and a total of 77 gold medals since 2000, Chief Winemaker, Matt Thomson, describes the 2007 vintage as one of their best yet.

“The long hot summer and ripening period has produced excellent quality wines with intense clean flavours and good acidity,” says Thomson. “This is a full, crisp and powerful wine with intense flavours of passionfruit and blackcurrant along with underlying gooseberry tones. Mouth-watering acidity and an intense mineral note are balanced by a full, yet elegant palate that leads to a long lingering finish. This wine is one to be savoured.” Thomson comments.

Fruit for this wine was sourced from a variety of vineyards and sub-regions, including the Lower Wairau Valley, Rapaura and the Awatere Valley.

The winemaking community will be eager to get their hands on this new vintage, after continuing accolades from wine commentators positioning Saint Clair as one of New Zealand’s best producer of Sauvignon Blanc.

Bob Campbell in the December/January 07 issue of Gourmet Traveller Wine, says “Saint Clair has now edged out Palliser and Cloudy Bay as this country’s top Sauvignon Blanc maker, my database of tasting records show.”

Saint Clair Estate Wines, which can now be enjoyed in 40 different export markets around the world, will release the Saint Clair Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2007 to the New Zealand market on Monday 16 July.
