Saint Clair Family Estate Celebrate Two Champions

09 October 2017

The long awaited New World Wine Awards results have been announced and the Marlborough winery, Saint Clair Family Estate, is thrilled to have three wines selected for the New World Top 50. The accolades did not stop there, as the Saint Clair Marlborough Premium Pinot Noir 2015 was awarded Champion Pinot Noir and the Saint Clair Marlborough Premium Chardonnay 2016 was awarded Champion Chardonnay.

The Saint Clair James Sinclair Marlborough Pinot Noir 2015 was also amongst the winning wines – achieving Gold Medal status.

Neal Ibbotson comments; “receiving two champions within the same wine show is an amazing result and these two trophies will stand proud at the Saint Clair winery. Through working together in all aspects of our business, from the vineyard to the final wine with a quality focus, we ensure the Saint Clair brand remains competitive in the market place and delivers on one of our core objectives of exceeding our customers’ expectations. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, dedication and commitment from our whole team.”

This is the fifteenth year of the New World Wine Awards which has developed into a significant New Zealand based event. A record number of entries were received for the 2017 event with 1,397 wines being entered from 183 wineries.

This year was the first year the show utilised a 100-point system;
Saint Clair James Sinclair Marlborough Pinot Noir 2015 – Gold Medal – 96 Points
Saint Clair Marlborough Premium Pinot Noir 2015 – Gold Medal – Champion Pinot Noir – 98 Points
Saint Clair Marlborough Premium Chardonnay 2016 – Gold Medal – Champion Chardonnay – 98 Points

Jim Harré, our Chair of Judges, commented, “This year we had more Pinot Noir entered than Sauvignon Blanc, which we feel is a significant endorsement of this show by producers…….. Consumers, who closely follow the results of this competition, will again be delighted at the breadth of styles and the overall quality of these results.”

It is believed to be the first time in the history of this wine show, that one producer has achieved two trophy wines.
